I would like to arrange a pdc/skillshare at Abundance (www.abundancepermaculture.com) next year. We are in SW Washington, and hour from portland towards Mt. St. Helens.
In addition to the
PDC, I would like to offer a natural building and skillshare element, starting perhaps the 14th of august and going through the 12 of september.
i would like to arrange this in a way that is as worktrade friendly as possible, which means planning in depth in advance.
I imagine the entire sequence taking a month, probably doing the natural building first, followed by a
PDC and then the skillshare.
The natural building week will have a few potential foucs clusters
1) outdoor kitchen with a
cob oven makeover, and construction of a massive hotbox cooker and grill set.
2)
rocket mass heater construction for home on site
3) barn remodel in rough cut notched timberframe w/ wattle & daub and
cob walls.
4) sauna makeover
which of these to follow will depend on which experienced teachers are available and how far interns get in setting up the work in order to faciitate easy workshops.
So heres the offer: I want 4 interns next summer on the site by may 31. For working with me in June and July and early August, youll get a free pass on the PDC and the Skillshare registration, a 1200+ value. Much of the prep work will be getting gardens in so we have onsite food, handling correspondence and registrations, and setting up the natural building projects.
YOU CAN GET COLLEGE CREDIT FOR THIS! Ive worked with TESC as a project sponsor, and would be happy to help you stack functions.
There will be other partial trades available. Im re-building my website, so this information isnt there yet. I will be attending the TESC intern fair and posting at TESC about this opportunity.
if youre a
PDC teacher reading this and would like to do a module or co teach for a few days or more, or if you have a natural building, farm or wilderness skill you would like to share, contact me and we can discuss collaborations.
skillshare topics will depend on teachers, but i'd like to do a wilderness and 'crowd scene' first aide training, (remember 1199?WTO in seattle? It's good to know some first aide, our heads are soft and dent easily...) storm survival practices for forest and mountain areas, tool maintenance and repair from hand trowels to chainsaws.... and more!!!
the building and pdc portions of the month would look very much like other retreats you have been to, but the skillshare will be a very loose and hopefully sweat equity meets
gift economy exchange rather than a fee event.... well have to work on that.
if you have interest in adding your wind to this, especially if you would like to intern or co-teach, drop me a PM, or reply here in
thread with general questions.
best
