Permaculture Design Course Caribbean 2013
Dec 1-14: 2-Week PDC at Ital Jamaica, Treasure Beach, Jamaica

http://treeyopermaculture.com/future-courses/caribbean-jamaica/

THE COURSE: Format and Content

The course will be an 80-hour Permaculture Design Certificate Course spread out over 15 days. This allows for ample time for students to digest the material, get hands-on experience and work on the final design project and presentation. The course will be a certified through TreeYo Permaculture as we are guided by Bill Mollison’s curriculum that comprises the 14 chapters of his book “Permaculture: A Designer’s Manual”.

THE HOST SITE: Ital Jamaica

Ital Jamaica is a camping and dorm accommodation which normally hosts budget travelers and volunteers from VIJON- Volunteer In Jamaica Opportunity Network. A small property just five minutes walk from the nearest beach, it is located in a quiet residential area in the village of Billy's Bay- one of the five fishing villages that comprise Treasure Beach.

There are 15 spots available in the dorm sleeping in bamboo bunk beds. Remaining spots for the course will be camping on the grounds which boast off-grid power, composting
toilets and outdoor showers, natural building touches (thatch, bamboo, stone) an established tropical food forest and a lot of room yet undeveloped, a blank slate for your final design presentation. The property is small (roughly 1/2 acre), which is a nice size for showing smaller, yard size designs and the potential to produce abundant food and group infrastructure in a limited space with limited resources.

VIJON has coordinated dozens of alternative breaks and humanitarian missions for university groups every year since 2003. Hundreds of individual volunteers and small groups have also served with VIJON assisting various groups in need.

Three healthy, delicious meals will be provided on course days with much of the produce coming from the onsite organic garden. All will be locally sourced, fresh and mostly organic even when it is not from Ital Jamaica. Expect an abundance of tropical fruits to accompany most meals, and a wide range of fresh bush teas and the famed Jamaican coffee to compliment all breakfasts.
