The simplest solutions are often the best. All you need is: 2 quality hooks, durable clothesline cord and a clothesline tightener.
There are all sorts of retractable clotheslines, all of which involve some sort of mechanism that pulls the clothesline into a housing of some type using a spring. Sooner or later this spring mechanism will break, this is one of several disadvantages of this type of clothesline. Other disadvantages are that the quality of the components is usually rather poor, they are more suitable for indoor use than for outdoor use. In addition, it is difficult to keep the clothesline tight, the spring is not strong enough to prevent the clothesline from sagging.
A much better solution is the one shown in the video. It just requires two clothesline hooks, a clothesline tensioner and a piece of clothesline cord.
All the components of our solution are of first-class quality. The hooks are made of AISI 316 stainless steel, the clothesline itself is made of double-braided polyester with a diameter of 4 mm. And it is white, so there is no risk of the clothesline staining the laundry. Polyester withstands UV radiation from the sun better than nylon or polypropylene and it also stretches less, so the clothesline will sag less.
Finally, the clothesline tensioner is manufactured for use on sailboats, so it will last for many, many years.
And the clothesline itself is easy to maintain, it can simply be machine washed in a wash bag. Do it once or twice a year and the clothesline will be clean and won't leave marks on the laundry.
