I'm seeking a work exchange situation on a small farm or homestead in the Pacific Northwest, where I can come to live and work in exchange for room and board. I'm looking to start sometime in the new year, maybe in March of 2014. It's possible that I could buy a small trailer to live in on your land while I'm there, though I'm trying to save all of the money I can right now, so it's better if there is already a place for me. I should have at least $3,000 saved up to live on, and if some meals are provided I'm hoping that should be enough to allow me to stay somewhere for the whole growing season. And then next Winter I can reassess my situation and decide what I want to do next. I'm most interested in either going to a permaculture farm that is doing really well, where I can learn a lot from people who having been doing it for a number of years already. Or else in joining someone who has some land and is just starting out, but where there may be potential for me to stay, and have a greater voice in building the homestead from the ground up.
My interests are in learning about permaculture and sustainable living, intentional communities, homesteading, and rural off-grid living, etc. Right now I'm searching for a better way to live, and I want to be close to the earth and surrounded by a like minded community. Ultimately I want to get some land of my own, where I can build a homestead and bring in other people to found a community with. But for now I'm interested in learning all I can, and in living and working on a homestead similar to the one in my dreams.
To say something about myself, I'm 33 years old, healthy, a long haired bearded veggie eating anarchist type perhaps. I'm intellectual and educated, my education and background is in classical music and fine art, though these days I would prefer to be in my garden. I have some experience visiting several homesteads and intentional communities for up to a week at a time, to share in the work and take in the lifestyle. And I've had my own garden in the past as well. I'm serious about making the move and changing my life though, and I'm going to make this happen one way or another.
I would love to hear about any opportunities, though I know about the ic directory already, and I'm already a member of wwoof. And I've only begun my search, I just wanted to put this out there... You can reach me by email at: email@example.com Best wishes to you all!
