Applied Sustainability Skills Intensive: Hands-on Learning of Regenerative Solutions for Community and Home Scale Living

Description: Over the last twelve years Rancho Mastatal has been building the skill sets and living campus that our standardized educational institutions often pass over. Our 2nd annual Applied Sustainability Skills Intensive is an opportunity to tap into this knowledge by learning-by-doing, and immersing oneself in the fields of Natural Building, Sustainable Agricultural, and Homesteading. This course is designed for students who want to know what it feels like to apply an earthen plaster, sharpen an axe, and make their own soap, while receiving introductory instruction on the science, context, and purpose of each necessary skill set.

This 3-week course presents students with an intense amount of information and challenges them with the physical realities of living more sustainably. Covering a wide array of interconnected topics and asking students to participate in daily farm life, the course will inspire students to change the way they live and see the world. The Intensive is broken down into three modules: Natural Building, Sustainable Agriculture, and Homesteading Skills. Each of these modules will focus on a set of core subjects, which will be expanded to cover a variety of potential discussions, techniques, and practices. We will use the rainforest, the rural community of Mastatal, and our unique site as an outdoor classroom, with approximately 60% hands-on and 40% classroom work. Students must come prepared with an open mind, good questions, and a desire to get dirty and sweaty, as there are many physical components to the work being practiced.

Cost
$1,800 for non-Central American foreigners, $1,500 for in-region ex-pats, and $1,200 for Central American. Price includes all food (except on Sunday nights when the Ranch generally supports the local restaurant), lodging, instruction, field trips and access to the Ranch and its facilities. We ask for a $300 deposit to secure your spot in this class
