So here's the skinny...

It appears all alternative housing/lodging has been thoroughly scooped up over the weekend, so...

Who wants to set up camp!? I sure do.

I'll be coming down from LAX in either a rideshare or a circuit of connecting city buses, then I'm looking at going to Lake Skinner Campground. $15 sites and we'd be right beside a nice lil' stocked lake. Trout for breakfast?

https://maps.google.ca/maps?q=38120+East+Benton+Road+to+pechanga&ie=UTF-8&ei=pWiuUrzQAc6bqAG6hYDoBA&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAg

Looks like a short distance (12-14 m), so hopefully I'll either be traveling with a bike or someone may be willing to take a wee carload from the camp morning and night. Pretty please?

Besides that plan, I'll think about finding a place to rough camp in the vicinity of PV, to avoid the travel time. Anybody else keen on either plan, or know of a good pitchin' spot in Temecula?

I am still in the planning stages, however, I was probably going to plan on camping at the Lake Skinner site while I was out there any ways. I also considered using https://www.couchsurfing.org/ to find a spot as well.

Hi there! My boyfriend and I are also planning to camp. We should definitely harness all those wanting to camp and set up a group camp. We will have a vehicle as well, so could shuttle you, Derick.

I'm interested in sharing a site at Skinner. I'm also interested in perhaps renting a house short term, like Paul et. al. are doing - I'll make a query or two about that & let ya'll know if it sounds feasible...

I have done a little bit of research on the campgrounds. Skinner hasn't been showing any camping (tent sites) available for those dates but in the next few days I plan to call around and can share what I learn.

Has anyone looked into finding another house for those of us just getting organized?

Julia found the house they're renting @ VRBO.com. That's as far as I've got so far. I probably won't get to it until Thu or Fri - feel free to jump ahead of me if you have time!

Camping sounds great! I have a car and I would have two medium sized dogs with me. I would love to share a site, driving to and from, fun camp meals (I have a camp kitchen I could bring) and stories 'round the campfire. Or get my own site and share all that other stuff anyway.

Sounds great! I still need to make a couple of phone-calls to see where there is availability and will get back to you all. Would love to share in preparing camp food! We will bring some cooking things and definitely a cast iron pan!

I found a house a few blocks away that sleeps six, apparently, at about $14 a night. Although, it is described as a 2 br, so that's sharing rooms, I'm sure. That's the low end I've found thus far - prices go up, but there seem to be several reasonable options, & it doesn't seem hard to find places under 40 / night. For a shower & a kitch, & possibly even a short walk to the conference each day, that seems pretty reasonable to me.

I can't afford to hold one of these places on my own, so let me know if you're interested, & we can get together & make it happen.

I just called Skinner Lake and there are individual sites available, with and without water and electricity - they are $23 per night if you just want water and $25 a night if you also want electric so you can bring your mini fridge and espresso maker. Each site can take 2 vehicles and 6 people max.

It would be fun to camp together and it would be fun to find each other in the campground. It would be smart to carpool to PV - it's 13 miles and takes about half an hour to drive.

The park's site is at http://www.rivcoparks.org/parks/lake-skinner/lake-skinner-home/ and there is a reservation link that lets you pick your site. I recommend you reserve online as there is a 20 or so minute hold if you call them. I suggest that if you go this route, you consider posting your site number for progressive pupu party (or just visiting) facilitation - or micro-group-camping if we get several sites together. A trip to Google Maps satellite view will help you find a site that has actual trees, if you like that kind of thing.

I am in site 119 and there is room for another car and up to 5 more peeps in my spot. There are 2 nice dogs camping with me. The fee for March 12-17 was $122. It has trees but no electricity. Splitzies would be great if you wanted to co-camp. PM me if that sounds good.

By the way, it's sunny and 73 degrees there today.

If there are any other places you know of where people are talking about PV camping, could you point us to them? I'd like to share this info and connect with other campers.

Thanks Laurie! I called Lake Skinner today as well and became very confused. One person said it was imposible to reserve tent campsites, and another person said we actually could reserve sites. I am not interested in reserving an RV site, since camping on cement is no bueno. Do you have any inside information about the tent camping sites? From the reservation map, there are no tent sites available to reserve. Hmm.

Hey Emily -

When I talked to them they said the sites were dirt, and I did not get them to fess up to any "tent only" sites, even though there is a reference to them. There is a "primitive group camping" area that is pure dirt, no water, no shade. It's a well-used campground, and it's not going to be like camping in the woods. My guess is that by avoiding the "full hookup" and "water plus electricity" sites, we might get something more person-friendly.

There is a neat feature in the reservations section on the site where you can see a picture of the site by clicking on it on the map. It looks compacted but not paved in some places. I am thinking that camping on the edge of the grassy area is as close as we can get to something tent-friendly. I guess for $10-$15 bucks a night I will probably bring my extra fluffy air mattress and dream about having a Westfalia.

Hope other permies pick this option - it could be a little disorienting otherwise!

Great. Thank you! We ended up reserving site 120. We know of a few people who want to camp, so we thought we'd just get the next space and we can each add more people to our spots. So: to any other interested campers. We've got two campsites reserved so far: 119 and 120. Let it be known if you want to add on to either of these campsites or reserve adjoining sites. We have 120 for March 12-16. We will be leaving right after the last session on the last day. Looking forward to it!

Wow! I hadn't looked at this thread since about 2 weeks after starting it, and figured camping interest was low and planning was very loose.
I'm very interested in splitting with either of you folks, having just a little pup tent to erect. Thanks for doing so much quality leg work on this one, folks.

Hi id be very interested in joining this camping group if there is still room! I will be coming from Colorado via San Diego airport. I will be alone with a small tent so i shouldn't take up to much room. Possibly renting a car from San Diego to make transportation easier. Please let me know if there is room, I won't have cookware but ill make sure to stop by the grocery store and bring plenty of great food!

Hi Andy!

Why don't you plan on sharing 119 with me? I think we'll have plenty of cooking and other gear between us all, especially if folks snag a couple of nearby sites, oh my it's going to be great!

New to the forum. We will be flying into San Diego 10:30 wednesday as of now we have a car booked and room at a local hotel for a fair rate on the long stay. We would be willing to cancel the two bed room and throw in on house. We have 3 people to split up the costs please let me know if you are looking for others to rent a house with. Thanks and look forward to seeing everyone in Cali!

Pete, I'd be interested in sharing the house! I'll be coming up from San Diego and I'm looking for accommodation.

How many people do you have interested so far?

Pete,

How is the house project going? Is there still room, say the futon or one of the day beds? I haven't booked my flight yet, could rent a car, or share a ride. Arriving Wednesday leaving Sunday evening-- unless the whole thing is over so late I will want to depart Monday morning. I'm excited about all the cohousing effort going on, and hope I can get a place.

Laurie,

I'm also interested in the camping project, arriving by air, one person, could bring my back packing tent, and make a stop at the grocery store. I'll be needing rides, or else renting a car and giving rides....

Please let me know how things stand.

Thanks so much!

Thekla

Grace,

will you be driving up from San Diego? Are you a local driving your own car, or are you renting a car, and what chance we could coordinate a ride share? I have not booked my flights yet, and possibly could coordinate my arrival and departure with yours.

Thanks

Thekla

Rebecca and Thekla: I believe the two campsites are filled up but you should reserve the site next to us: either 118 or 121 at lake skinner.

Add me to the list of people flying into San Diego Wednesday night and looking to camp (or house share if that's still open!)

I will most likely be renting a car.

Hi...I am excited to be coming to permaculture voices and it like ill be doing some camping...I am flying in to lax...still need to buy plane tickets
Seems like lake Skinner is the place to be and ill most likely be constructing a simple tarp shelteis there any camping going on closer to the conference?
And if I were to camp at lake skinner is there room at a camp site to share costs and if not...what site number would be close to permie peeps??
Is there any carpool room....I may just need to rent a car but would hate to be wasteful if there was ample carpool space.
Any info would be much appreciated.

Just asking to confirm that site 119 and 120 are full? Also, are we organizing a car pool from Lake Skinner? Final question, is anyone else coming in via Grey Hound?

Christian,
The sites are 119 and 120 I believe.

Christian, currently that is the plan. I prefer camping but showers are also very nice :-p. I have sent out a few couchsurfing requests but haven't heard back, plus their distance from the event is a bit much. Also, it basically forces me to rent a car for my self rather than being able to carpool.

If 119 and 120 are full I am interested in throwing in on a third site. I believe I read that they hold 6 people and 2 cars per site. Hopefully between three potential campsites we won't have to rent 3+ cars. Also, Diego linked https://www.supershuttle.com which could be really useful for all us at the campsite I'd imagine.

I should have all my plans set in stone by this Friday. Hoping to have it done by tomorrow though.

I can't remember but I do feel like I found one closer, however the Lake Skinner site spoke to me.

The couch surfers were almost all an hour or so away from the conference. I think I remember reading its about a 30min drive mostly of red lights from the campsite to the conference.

Will you be wanting to camp until the 19th or are you going to stay at the permies house after the event?

I am going to be arriving on the 12th in Temecula. I was planning on leaving the campsite on the 17th to either stay in the permies main house for a few days or head to TX to cave with some friends.

I live in San Diego (92107) and I am looking for folks who want to carpool to Permaculture Voices. 4 seats available. We also have some alternative housing available if folks are interested and hot showers are included.

S Leone I know Jocelyn mentioned Bart needing a lift from San Diego...and. there is a rideshare carpool thread for Pv as well ...If I was flying into San Diego I'd be in...
Just for the record..how long does it take to ride from San Diego to temecula and how much would the alternative housing cost if someone was interested?....thanks for offering another option....the threads have gotten quiet for pv housing and rideshare info for latecomers like me.
