Levon Helm talking about his attempts to pay off the farm :

An example of the star studded cast that would show up and jam :

Levon Helm was in financial straits and needed to recover financially and physically so he started hosting jam sessions in his barn / recording studio . These sessions became very successful and eventually became a road tour . While most of us do not have his musical connections or history we can consider hosting musical events as sustainable income stream and community building . Does anyone have experiences with this type of event ? I had a few friends who were successful at this . One hosted a Sunday morning breakfast where for a cover charge you got coffee , homemade food , and a performance by musician , dancer , poet or all the above . Helped pay the rent .
