I have just been reading about a new project in Scotland that plans to build a huge stock of seed in domestic freezers within Highland communities, against the hard times to come when peak oil causes widespread disruption of food supplies to the region. You can read more at:

I coordinate Mid Wales Permaculture Network in UK,

and we are interested in a similar scheme for Wales that goes beyond current seedsaving initiatives.

Does anyone else have experience of long-term storage of seeds in domestic freezers? And what is the scientific data on viability and under what conditions?

I wonder, I bet CSU (Colorado State University) would know.
