To visit the FLAT online: www.umt.edu/umflat
We are located at 633 5th Street East facing Jeanette Rankin Park

The UM FLAT (Forum for Living with Appropriate Technology) is the physical home for sustainability at the University of Montana. Founded in the Spring of 2008 by students in the Environmental Studies Program, the FLAT home is an experiential live-in resource for six UM students demonstrating the practicality of sustainable living. By living with and educating others about the social, ethical, and environmental benefits of appropriate technology, the UM FLAT promotes a culture of sustainability at the University. Retrofits of the homes on our existing facility with volunteer work  demonstrate sustainable technologies in real ways, improving both the health of the community and the well-being of those who live at the FLAT.

We are currently working on expanding our permaculture garden and resources at the FLAT including heirloom seeds, an expanded mandala-shaped flower and produce garden, urban chickens, xera-scaping, gray water harvesting, a horse-manure hot box for extending the growing season, and other outdoor and indoor initiatives for students and community members to become involved with.

We had a piece in the Kaimin yesterday 2.25.10:
