Hello Permies!

I belong to a Heathen / Asatru Kindred called Cliffside Kindred that owns 200 acres of pristine (pretty much) wilderness in central Ontario.

Cliffside Kindred is offering a ‘start from scratch opportunity’ to contribute to a heathen offgrid community in the Muskoka Lakes area of central Ontario. We are looking for one or two, possibly more, individuals or groups (ie. family or kindred) to set up a permanent homestead at Goodright Farm.

There will be no initial land cost ‘buy in’, nor any ongoing maintenance costs. The only requirement would be that he/she/they live there full time.

Cliffside Kindred is a community-minded and diverse group of individuals and family members with various skills, talents and interests including, agriculture, ecology, animal husbandry, beekeeping, mead-making, leather working, Viking age reenactment, modern & ancient technology, alternative energy and farming techniques, academics (art, philosophy, science), storytelling, woodcarving and spirituality among other things. We follow a basic principle of inclusive heathenry encompassing the idea of ‘one dream, one team,’ which doesn’t allow for any form of racism, segregation or supremacist ideals; the colour of your skin has never had, nor will ever have, any relevance to us.

Goodright Farm is a 200 acre parcel of land situated roughly between Bracebridge and Huntsville, Ontario. There are 185 acres of mixed deciduous and coniferous forest and a small parcel cleared for grazing and cultivation. There is no water access, although there are a number of small creeks that cross the property. The plant hardiness zone for the area is 4a.

At present, the land at Goodright has no buildings, electricity, running water or road access, although the road is being worked on week by week and full access will be assured within a month. You will have to construct your own dwelling, solar power and rain water collection system, or employ some other alternative technology as the location is not accessible to ‘the grid’ at present, nor will be for the foreseeable future.

We are looking primarily for other heathens with skills and/or interests to compliment the community (woodworker, butcher, farmer, potter, weaver, tanner, metal worker etc), but are open to exceptions, depending on the circumstance. However, those belonging to a monotheistic faith will not be considered. Interest from groups or individuals subscribing to other forms of spirituality and/or having an agnostic/atheist worldview will be considered on a case by case basis.

If you are interested in becoming part of the Goodright community, please contact us via comment, facebook ( or by emailing info @ thecrowsfjord . com with your name and contact, and a little info about yourself. We look forward to hearing from you!
