Ever wondered what would happen in a real crisis where food and resources dry up. Fuel, water, food, electricity? After the rush for available stock still delivered once per week, then once per month, people will come for other sources not because they are criminals but because they are hungry. And most of these crisises were designed by cruel systems nudging us in their choice of directions.
I think we are standing between the governments control and independance. I think we know how to maintain ourselves in most instances. We might not be there completely but at least we are making small step progresses. How do you keep the masses of all culture from looting and drifting? Teach them the way. Become involved in ways to display your own efforts. Open days, visitations to you local schools. We need to think. Help.

We are living in depressing times.

All my dreams, intuitions, etc. say to trust in ourselves and have faith that we will be able to meet our challenges wisely. We can never know exactly what will happen or how things will go, but we can do things best with an open mind and no anxiety or preconceptions getting in the way.

My grandparents lived through the Great Depression.

It was the worst of times and the best of times.  A lot of good thing were learn such as:

And then came the next era:

Nicole said,
We've got a lot of crazy stuff in the world right now, and it seems more and more that the solution to nearly all of it is gardening. This reminded me of those old victory garden posters, so I thought, "Let's start a victory garden thread!"

Now is the time to prepare before it happens.

This would be an excellent topic for the cider pess, where people who have earned enough apples can post about hot button topics.

In the mean time, permies has a lot of solution based threads about specific situations and challanges and how they were handled historically and in living memory.
