Dale's Garden Structures

My customers needed two sheds, one for firewood and one for garden tools. Both needed to be as discrete as possible. I like single plane shed roofs.

This is the firewood shed. Three of the posts are attached to fence posts. Free oak pallets on the floor.

The beam is created by sandwiching the 4x4s between 2x6s. This serves to straighten the usually twisted 4x4s and use 6 inch material, rather than a single 2x10. The customer wanted to reduce height.

The shingles wrap around the top of the 2x6. A 2x2 is covered by the shingles with half an inch overhang. This creates a drip edge. This is the windward side.

The tool shed is built in the same manner. Wheelbarrows and garbage cans store under the big shelf which is made from a full sheet of half inch plywood. Rakes, shovels, etc will be stored on the shelf. The roof overhangs the shelf by 2 feet. The shelf is a perfect potting area.

We talked about using legs to support the shelf. I chose to suspend it from doubled up rafters. This allows items to be stored without constantly bumping into the legs. I climbed onto it during construction. It would make a nice bunk bed.

I may soon deconstruct this building. The vertical aluminium siding and plywood is perfect for finishing off the tool shed. It will be finished as time and materials allow. The white sheeting is plywood, not drywall (:

The concrete was poured 10 years ago for a composting pad.
