to well or not to well ( gound water realities in south florida)

Hello all

I just wanted to share some information I recently learn after digging around for information before we  decide to put a water well in my parents
house, my father still deciding ( I find it not logical)  after all this information that im sharing here I think the best option is to set up rain water harvest system (we do harverst rain water but we haven't made progress to really structure a system)

The Floridan aquifer system has been used as a
receptacle for oil field brines since 1943. During 1943-83,
8.1 Ggal of brine were produced with 3.2 Ggal of oil. Of
the 8.1 Ggal of brine, about 7.1 Ggal were injected into
the Florida aquifer system. During 1959-83, 112 Ggal of
nontoxic liquid waste were injected into the Floridan by
municipal wastewater-treatment systems and industry.
The average rate of injection increased from 268,000
gal/d in 1959 to 73.75 Mgal/d in 1983. In 1984, the
estimated rate of injection was 112 Mgal/d. Injection of
nontoxic liquid wastes is chiefly into the Boulder Zone of
the Lower Floridan aquifer, although small amounts
have been injected into the Upper Floridan aquifer.
Pilot studies indicate that the Upper Floridan aquifer
can be used for temporal storage of freshwater. How-
ever, storage of freshwater in the Lower Floridan aqui-
fer is not feasible.

all this information currently is taking room in my mind as I been looking to buy land in florida to start a small farm
but I am not to optimistic currently.
