I got some Schisandra seed in the spring and sow some in the garden and some in a small container on my deck. At first I was convinced it was a Schisandra vine but now I am not so sure.

Could anyone confirm if this is truly a Schisandra vine or just a weed that found its way there.

Thanks,
Kris

Hi Kris,
Pretty sure that's not a Schisandra vine. The leaves are much smoother and glossier. I've been wrong before, but I am pretty sure on this one.
FWIW, not an easy plant for me to grow. Very sensitive to sun, wind, etc. At least in my climate, it needs an ultra sheltered spot, with lots of tender care.
Best of luck,
Adam

Looks pretty similar to the Schisandra I've got growing. I'll try to take a picture later for comparison. I do agree that it's a tough plant to grow...

Thanks for the responses. I still am not convinced it's a Schisandra vine but I'll let it grow and see what comes of it.

If it is Schizandra I envy you. Did you get fresh seed? I tries to grow that but I was not able so far!

I got the seeds from Richters Herb and the seeds were inside the dried berry. I am not sure how fresh they were before they were sent to me.
I plan on trying a few more inside and outside (stratification) during the winter to hopefully get a couple of plants.
