Greetings Permies! It's a pleasure!
There's a cherry tree on a 1 acre property with an uncontrolled fruit fly problem. Anyone have some
experience with mitigating this?
I did a quick search and discovered that when the larvae are ready, they exit the cherry and drop onto the ground to become flies the following summer. Has anyone experimented with catching the larvae "on the drop" and feeding them to
chickens?
Should I instead harvest all of the cherries now and
feed them to the
chickens?
In 2011 Suzy Bean posted about the 1gal.
milk jug prevention technique.

Another fly catching possibility is the coloured sticky surfaces. Stefan Sobkowiak (the
permaculture orchard in Quebec) seems to be quite fond of this method.
Thoughts or suggestions? This is very new territory for me, any help would be greatly appreciated!
