Plastic in soil?

Hello!

I was wondering if it is dangerous to have plastic bits in the soil? I've seen somewhere that if plastic gets warmed up, by the sun for example, some dangerous chemicals get released and sipp into the soil.
Anyone knows about the safety of growing vegetables in plastic containers?
