I had a very small "aha" moment.  Is there any reason the riser can't be wrapped in rock wool for testing purposes?  I don't expect it to hold up for very long, but shouldn't it hold up long enough to run a decent test?

I'll pick up a bale next time I hit Home Depot.  I'll pick up some hardware cloth as well so I have something to hold it in place.
