Excerpted from The Whole Dog Journal April 2008

Calendula has virus fighting properties for both humans and animals. Everything from anti-HIV properties to proven ability in vesicular stomatitus virus in horses, cattle and pigs. "Goats and sheep seek it out" as a tonic and heart medicine according to Juliette de Bairacli Levy in Complete Herbal Handbook for Farm and Stable. She also lists it as a tretment for vomiting, internal ulcers, fevers, ailments of arteries and veins, heart disease, all skin conditions including eczema and warts. Add it to food, brew strong teas, make lotions, sprays, gels, creams, salves and tinctures from it. Eases bee and wasp stings, cuts, burns, abrasions, wounds, infections, allergic rashes and hot spots in pets and humans. Add to pet rinse water to soothe itching, in ulcerated ears, and ear flushes, as mouthwash, skin rinse, and an aromatherapy base for essential oils that fight infection or ease other symptoms.

recipes for tea, infused oil, salve, tincture and some specific pet treatments given @ www.whole-dog-journal.com (search calendula)
