CedarRoot Folk School is offering a $50
Biochar workshop on 6/18/17-- a great reason to visit the beautiful Olympic Peninsula and check out the happenin' agricultural area of Chimacum.
Local camping in Fort Worden, Fort Flager, and Fort Townsend State Parks, also many great B&Bs, Airbnbs, and couchsurfing in nearby Port Townsend. Come home with what you need for making your own biochar.
Here's the class description, with a link at the bottom for sign up:
"Biochar (charred organic matter) is an ancient soil amendment used to enrich soil. Biochar is also a promising way to capture
carbon from the atmosphere and mitigate the effects of climate change. In this
course we will talk about how biochar interacts with the soil and how to best integrate it into gardens and pastures. We will demonstrate making biochar in a 55 gallon top-lit up-draft (TLUD) stove and finish by making a miniature TLUD for each participant to take home. Sign up Deadline June 2."
