Building a low cost straw bale house in 10 days, with Lesley Anne Martin in Portugal

Teacher: Lesley Martin, has been teaching Permaculture for the past 25 years, initially in England where she worked with the Adult Education authorities as well as being involved in Permaculture education for the unemployed.  For the past 20 years she has been living and teaching all over Portugal. Now a number of her students are teaching in their turn.

When?: August 4th until August 13th 2017

Where?: Terra do Milho permaculture project in the Algarve run by a Dutch foundation: Ouro da Terra. The straw bale house will be part of dwellings for people who will follow courses and activities at Terra do Milho.

The course: The construction of a tiny, low cost, straw bale house. The house has no foundation. It is build on a base made of old car tires. It is constructed without a wooden frame. The straw bales are compacted and plastered with a lime plaster. A window and a door will be put in. For the roof we will use insulated corrugated iron panels.  Lesley Martin, permaculture teacher and living at Terra do Milho, will guide the building project.

Time schedule:  Breakfast: 6.30; course: 7.00-11.00; Lunch (included) at 12.00; course 16.00-20.00; Dinner (included) at 20.00

Accommodation: bring your own tent, rent a tent on site (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/18453847?guests=1&adults=1&children=0&infants=0&location=Monchique&s=dPZw-Z8u), rent accommodation in the surroundings.

Max: 8 people

Costs:
For people who are living on a minimum: 95€
This includes: 20€ expenses for food, teacher's fee: 75€

People who can afford more: 195€
This includes: 20€ expenses for food, teacher's fee: 75€, donation to the foundation: 100€
