Checking in here

I recently heard some interviews Paul Wheaton gave over at “ The Survival Podcast” and determined that I needed to come here and start learning.

A little about me.  I am in my late thirties, married with two young boys (9 &3). We currently reside in North East Texas where I work as a paramedic and my wife is a stay at home mom/Homemaker.  We have had small gardens on and off over the years with very little success.   We are looking to change that.

We are also looking to buy a plot of land and start a little homestead as soon as we can, on the” freaky cheap” if possible.

I don’t have a lot to contribute now, but as I learn and set forward on our journey, I may in the future.  For now, I will be a sponge.  Please forgive the stupid questions that are sure to follow.  I have a lot of catching up to do.

I'm on the other side of the world: one of the great things about the internet, as well as a danger, since many of my ideas could be totally useless to you!
Most of what you'll read will be variations on the theme of mulch and organic matter.
You may start to eye old cardboard, lawn clippings and  horse poo by the road in a very different way...

The only "stupid question" is the one that doesn't get asked.  There are many people here already doing what you want to do...some in your neighborhood.  Advice/suggestions are free here.  They can save you wasted time/money.  Once you select a location, ask away!  In the mean time, browse to your hearts content.  You will find tons of information here.  Welcome!
