Hello, me and my boyfriend started living off the grid on a piece of land in the greek mountains 4,5 years ago. We have set up a basic infrastructure (natural build houses, 2 big vegetable gardens etc) and are now ready to actively share our knowledge and experience through this coming internship. We will mix in depth theory with every day farm jobs. We would like to attract people interested in having a self sufficienct homestead or joining a natural living community.
Underneath you can read our announcement on facebook (Liveloula).
Our farm Liveloula is an organically growing homestead with a focus on peaceful, ecological and self-sustainable living. We are located at 750m high in the northern Peloponnese just outside the village Seliana. The valley where we are situated is rich in water, diverse in vegetation, it’s so beautiful.
Steven, a 34 year old Belgian, is a trained gardener with a main goal to create a food forest and Chenny, a 38 year old Dutch woman that worked in the past as a midwife and now has a specific interest in gardening and herbal medicine. Both of us are permaculture design certified. Since 2013 the amount of people living with us ranged from zero to fourteen. When we started here there wasn’t anything more on the land than grass and some bushes. For now, we are cultivating parts of a 1,5 hectare plot. Two sides of this plot are bordered by forest and the other sides are (abandoned) orchards. We are off grid. Power is generated with photovoltaics and there are plans to build a hydro-electric system powered by a river nearby. Our drinking water comes from a spring and irrigation water is tapped from a stream higher up in the forest. Last year we finished our second natural building, our kitchen/bathroom and this year we'll build a big chicken coop and more storage rooms. All of the vegetables we are eating are organic and home grown or wild picked. Our all natural way of farming shuns mechanical devices, therefore farming becomes a fun and dynamic hands on experience. Did we mention working the soil is healthy for body and mind?
We are looking for people that are interested for an internship at our homestead. Minimum stay will be 2 months. Camping in tents. From March/April until the end of September. During spring most of the work will be preparing the soil for the next growing season, seeding and planting. During the summer we will be doing more building projects (working with natural building techniques to build dry storage, renovating our outside shower). During summer our focus will shift towards preserving food for winter (canning, dehydrating etc). Staying at our off grid farm will give you a full experience in natural living at our homestead, get to know aspects of permaculture, creating a food forest, learning about soil and water management, garden pattern design and home pharmacy.
We are trying to live as sustainable and self-sufficient as possible.
