DIY aquaponic setup, first update.

I would like to share, my aquaponic setup I recently made. I got a lot of helpful advice in another thread I had started about what creatures to use as the source of poop. I found a source for free guppies in my county. They give them out for people who have ponds, to control mosquitos.

I spent around 60 dollars. I am sure it can be done for cheaper. The most expensive part was the pump. About 20 bucks. My county also puts chloramine (as well as chlorine) in our water. Chloramine cannot be cleared up by letting the water "air out."
I purchased a liquid cleanser for aquariums that eliminates chloramine.

It is a 200gph pump
approx: 25 gallon tank
18 gal. grow bed with 13 inches of red lava rock
20 guppies

I will put some seedlings in a few days. I have cucumber, a pepper plant and basil. This is completely experimental, I don't expect anything from this, except a learning experience. I had lots of fun and hit a few obstacles constructing it. All in all, good times.

For future reference, those chemical de-chlorinating agents say on the bottle that they shouldn't be used for edible fish.

So when you build out your next system (and you will!) you'll probably want to capture rain water or something.

Thanks tamo, you are probably right. I'll look into that. There is a website on the bottle I will go to to find out more info. Rain water would be a bit more natural as well, good idea.

Heres second update to the system. Added the guppies, a crayfish, and plants.
