We are a sustainable homestead model project on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
The goal of our project is to create a sustainable model which can be replicated so that local residents living in poverty can attain self sufficiency and a more comfortable lifestyle.
In 2010 we built a cob house, this summer we will begin construction of another cob house as well as building a complete pallet house, planting a food forest, improving our road, bee keeping, installing water catchment and grey water systems and planting an organic garden.
We will be accepting wwoofers throughout the summer.
We are looking for at least one more intern for the whole summer who is knowledgeable and experienced in growing food. Candidates with knowledge of permaculture principals given preference.
Languages spoken: English, Lakota, Spanish
There is no public transportation to the reservation but arrangements can be made for pick up in Rapid City, SD.
Children and pets will be considered on a case by case basis.
Badlands National Park, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument, Wind Cave National Park all within 2 hr drive.
Locally, there will be opportunities to attend pow wows and other cultural events.
