Do you want to contribute to studying bacteria in human bodies, and their role in diseases such as Type 1 diabetes?

Do you want to be a part of an international team to fight childhood cancer?

Do you want to work on finding a cure for the Zika virus?

Do you want to help study the bacteria that cause TB, to help look for a cure?

Do you want to help pioneer new techniques to fight HIV?

Do you want to assist scientists in finding an antiviral drug to combat Ebola?

Do you want to help search for and identify the genetic markers for cancer?

You can help with any, or all of these programs.  This is a project that I started helping with in 2014.  It is called the World Community Grid.  These projects that I listed above are the main projects.  There is also the ability to use computing power to help projects such as SETI, or to look for Einstein's pulsars.

It's very simple.  You could use your computer to mine for bitcoin or other cryptocurrency.  This is an artificially inflated currency that is worth thousands of dollars.  I have always disliked crypto, and have always wanted something more for the world.  This is why I have always been a huge supporter of the world community grid.  This is about people linking together, and using technology to help and improve the world.  We are talking about real scientific studies here.  You allow the program to utilize your computer to run simulations and calculations for scientists.  This helps their research time to be significantly decreased.

Granted, there probably won't be anyone that congratulates you as a hero.  But, helping the world isn't about recognition.  It is about making a noticeable difference.  I have helped with numerous completed studies through WCG over the years.  My only regret is that there was a period of a year or two, in which I wish I had spent more time contributing to the projects associated with it.

WCG is free.  It isn't going to cost you anything to join, or to help the projects.  Well, that isn't completely true, because you will be paying for the electricity to run the computer to run the program.  That's it.  Nothing else.  All that's left for you to invest, is your computer power time.  You can even set the preferences so that the WCG program only runs during a specific time of day, like when you are asleep.  Wouldn't you feel a bit better in knowing that you are helping the world while you catch some Zzzzs?

This project can be worked on by anyone.  The faster of a computer and better graphics card that you have, the more computations that you can do for the project, and so the more research that you can help with.  Don't let this dissuade you, because a computer of any level can help.  Even if you don't have a computer, you can run the computations on your android or iphone cell phone.  Currently, I have a powerful desktop, a gaming laptop, and two cell phones helping with these research projects.  You can even set the program to run on a cell phone only when you have the screen off.  It's built so that it can run unobtrusive, so that you won't lose the use of your computer .... but, I like to devote as much power as possible toward science.  I know that I am only helping a small percentage of the total, or even a fraction of a percentage ..... but, how much could we accomplish in this world if everyone helped just a fraction of a percentage?

We could use your help, heck I could use your help.  I would appreciate if you would consider signing up, and devoting a small bit of your computing time to helping a project of your choice.  Here is a signup link that creates an account for you, and has you join my team.  https://join.worldcommunitygrid.org?recruiterId=947410&teamId=5NZ6P76V92

Now, there's no way that I am going to have one of the top teams.  There are large companies that run their computers to help with this project.  There is also no way that I am going to be one of the top recruiters for this program.  Being the top is not my goal.  I just simply want to contribute.  If you see my team name, this is simply about raising awareness of the personal liberties that I feel need to be protected in our country.  This is the freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of press.  We should be free to support whichever cause that we want, so that we can choose our own scientific causes to back.

If this post would be more applicable in another forum, please let me know.  Thank you for reading this post, and I hope that you have learned a little bit about what makes WCG so special.  Yes, you could simply step into crypto .... but that is just a bunch of greedy people wanting to make money.  Aren't we better than that?
