I live in NW BC and find it more "open".As my wife mentioned earlier firewood is free(free to cut down ,haul back home and split) The fishing is good and the wilderness is still wild.The winters here are a lot of freeze/thaw cycles.Farther inland is colder and not so slushy.We do live an 8 hour drive from a small city and 18 from a major one.This can be a good thing or a bad thing depends on your perspective. I think it would be challenging to homestead here but very doable. This area used to be called the",Anapolis "of the North. Even the islands in the Skeena River were planted.Our farmers market here in Terrace is getting better every year.Apart from NW BC you might get some good deals on land in the SE part of the province. good luck!
