See i knew i was already an old lady, lol! But seriously, it makes me feel so much younger to think about living in the woods away from all the rat race now known as society. I've dreamed of it for over 40 years now.

That's what i'd truly like to get back to, before modern 'civilization' which is now driving me insane :bangs head:

i live in the upper East TN area, looking to retire within the next 10-15 years preferably in the woods near the mountains, looking Sunday in the Greene County area but surrounding counties are being considered except for Sullivan they are NOT eco friendly at all

Wow, am sooooo glad i found permies.com, once i find a piece of land dreams will come true, i knew there had to be a way to return to a life without modern utilities, i shoulda been born native american before my idiotic white ancestors came and raped this land with all it's.... n/m i just love nature & need to avoid rants, lol, there are things i appreciate about my irish heritage & therefore intend to call my place "ShamRockHEART" (4 green hearts assembled to form a shamrock will be a common design motif)... now to just decide which stove/oven design will work best & whether to incorporate it inside or outside the main house... Oh this will probably need to be a seperate thread but what can be done about refidgeration?

what ratios does there have to be for the burn tunnel before the reburn barrel (may not be using proper terms here)? my current curiosity is the possibility of putting a brick oven style structure or woodstove oven metal box over the burn tunnel...is there a site or diagram available to study sizes and compare lorena stove vs. rocket stove, etc.

also not sure if i would want to do this inside the straw bale or design a covered outdoor kitchen that can be closed up in winter & left open in summer

many thanks Andrew, who knew there are so many natural options? obviously folks @ permies.com! lol, so glad to be learning such awesome stuff, not sure i can contain myself, no settle on which things i want to incorporate into my straw bale i am designing, a friend and i are going to take a look at some virgin wooded acreage tomorrow, he's not real into my off-griddedness yet, but i think it's only because he's not been to this forum yet
