The Permaculture Calendar is back again, now in it's 9th year. Each of the 12 months feature a design principle, starting with the Rocket Powered Oven, illustrating the first design principle Observe and Interact.

The calendar includes a moon planting guide that is suited to both the northern and southern hemispheres. Icons are used to indicate which moon phase you are in and what types of plants will most benefit from seeding or transplanting. There's also indicators of when not to plant, instead to take on other garden activities like weeding, harvesting, mulching or building compost.

A little bit of inspiration for every day of the year.

Available in the US and Canada from Permaculture Design Magazine and Permaculture Magazine Nth America, as well as in the UK, NZ and Australia.

No plans for a physical book at this stage. If there is, it will be available from the product page for the Rocket Powered Oven on the Permaculture Principles website.

The designs in the eBook are for a barrel oven and a conventional gas / electric oven rocket stove retrofit. I attended Tim and Joel's workshop (in Australia) and it was awesome. I too had a dream of converting a conventional oven, and hope to do one at my place in the next month or so. I've got the oven! The idea of heating up my home during summer seems crazy - an efficient outdoor oven is the way to go,

This image is from that workshop and features in for January in the 2017 Permaculture Calendar.

While not exactly a book, I thought this was probably the best place for this post.

The Permaculture Calendar illustrates the 12 Design Principles, one for each month, using thought provoking images and text. It was design as a way to help people learn the principles, as defined by co-originator David Holmgren, with a daily use item.

By embodying the permaculture ethics, using 100% post consumer recycled paper, veg based inks and renewable energy to produce it, the calendar has a light footprint on the earth, and is a positive contribution to the people who produced it. To demonstrate the ethic of Fair Share, 10% of net sales from the Calendar will be donated to Permafund Permafund, supporting permaculture projects internationally, creating a truely ethical product.
