Being proactive and bumping my post for more visibility, there's gotta be someone for me out there! =)

Thanks for your message of support.

It takes a long time, learning the homesteading ropes.

I hope your adventures continue in a positive direction Eva =)

Your land is lovely! I'm in Portugal at the moment on my little plot of land.

It's been hard because I've been isolated for so long, even before Covid and way before moving to Portugal - I'm thinking of moving to Taiwan. Also, I'm so unskilled in homesteading, if I don't get help soon, I'm probably going back to regular city life.

Good luck with everything.

Hi,
This might be a spin off of this post https://permies.com/t/136880/space-trees-closer-slope-effects.

Much steeper slope here though....

So I'm planting on a 40-45 degree slope (90-100%). Zone 8a SW France. Silty loam. SW facing. 1200mm annual rain. I'm planting the trees mostly in a diamond pattern to maximize space availability. I plant the trees in big "bowls" I dig out by hand....

I'm trying to find info and experience on tree spacing in this specific context.

I tried to upload a drawing but I was having trouble with the formatting =S

So how close can I plant a fruit tree (say Apple) on this steepness of a slope compared to a flatter piece of land. If I would plant a tree at 7 meters distance at a "flat" farm could I plant them here at 5? or just 6 meters?

My goal is to maximise fruit production (eventually as a cash crop) with minimal pruning and at the same time get to a point where most of the tree canopy is crowding the ever present brambles!

I'm looking  at the Edible Forest Gardens book and there is hardly anything on slopes. I guess tree spacing in the appendix is a very general guideline for flatter forest gardens....

Thanks for your thoughts! =)

Try the report button on the post and one of the moderators can turn the edit button on temporarily.
.
The big problem is that some people have abused the edit button in the past so we tend to be hesitant to turn it on without good reason.

Hey, sorry.
I didn't mean to say that any one was deleting content. I was just saying that I could delete and re-post my own post.

I'll take your advice and use the report button.

Thanks =)

Timothy Norton wrote:I checked with looking at my own post that has been longer than a week and I see what you are seeing now. I have a hunch that there is a time limit with editing a post before it gets "locked".

I'd wait to see confirmation from someone who tinkers with the site background mumbo jumbo.

Yes, I think you are right that it is locked.

And I read a bit around the link that r ranson provided.

It makes sense for a lot of things.

But in my case, it's just a slight rewording that won't really change the content but I feel uncomfortable with something i said that doesn't really reflect who I am (not to mention that i'm not 31 years old any more, but that I guess don't feel a strongly enough to need to modify because birthdays happen).

Who would the person be who would be able to unlock the post editing even for a couple days so I can modify this word (really its maybe three words).

It seems a pity to delete the whole post or repost just for this one thing but I feel misrepresented enough that I would do that if there is no other way.

Thanks for your understanding and for all the hard work you all put in!

Timothy Norton wrote:Top right of the post you want to edit have "..." button. Click that and it will expand to expose an edit button.

I hope this helps!

Hey thanks for your response but hmmm

well ummm it's confusing because when I click the "..."  it just gives me three options:

Quote" "Report post to moderator"  and  "share "

Nothing else any where that I can see. Any ideas?
Hi,
I have a post up on the permies singles forum.
There is something I said in the post that I would like to slightly modify. (delete just one word really).

But I can't seem to find a way to do that.

Can someone help me please.

thanks
Max

Cee Marie wrote:Hi... Just came across this thread... Did you find somewhere suitable? I'm currently in the Dordogne but as beautiful as it is, it is too hot in the summer and I haven't met my tribe yet. It's not so alternative here. Several people have mentioned the Ariege to me for off grid living and like minded communities... Did you check it out? Also Hugo from Morvan, I have been intrigued by Burgundy and the Morvan national park. I miss green, forests and rivers... Where I am is quite dry and rocky! So am missing lush countryside. Anytips would be appreciated. Thanks in advance 😊

Hey,
how is your search going?

I'm in the east of the Tarn. Beautiful area. Cheaper than Ariege and just as green and forested and with spring fed rivers.

Let me know if you need any tips or if you're visiting the area.

Gabrielle Hoa wrote:Dear Max, your posting resonates strongly with me, although I am much older (46) and i am done with kids (I have a teenage daughter). But I am a French native and spent my summers in nearby Cévennes where my family is from; almost bought an abandoned farm there last summer, but decided against as my life is in the US for now until my daughter is grown. But wanted to drop a few words of encouragement and good luck! You have a beautiful land and spirits. Be well!

Hey, thanks for your motivational words.
Yeah i love the Cevennes too, very happy to see all these chestnut producing regions in France/Europe still with loads of potential. We just need more people of all ages to maintain the "native food forests" for them not to fall into disuse =P.
