You are going to see my name come up many times as much (not all) of what I am reading here is poor informtion. I have been a Certified Herbalst for over 40 years and have devoted much of my time to the study of natural healing. I also teach and wrote articles on natural healing for our regional newspaper for a few years. I do believe that most people can look after diseases that are not life threatening. I will try and direct the reader into what I consider a better choice of treatment and how to approach learning about natural healing. I consider Homeopathy to be the superior medicine, herbal treatment can be effective but it can also be more expensive. Questions are welcome as long as I am not inundated.

Graves Disease or a Hyperactive Thyroid can be life threatening, as an Herbalist of 40 years practice I cannot reccomend a herb that is totally effective. Don't play games and listen to amateurs trying to be kind and guiding you away from what should be considered first. When faced with a serious disease always see a qualified practitioner. The only natural treatment that works for this disease is Homeopathy and treatment should be administered by a professional homeopath and not an amateur. There are seven basic Homeopathic remedies for a hyperactive thyroid and up to 50 remedies that may be indicated only someone with the proper training is going to be of help here. The success of treatment is fairly high but it always is easier if treated at the onset.

Allergens from dust and pollen indoors or out can be handled by making a simple homeopathic remedy. 50 to 75% effective

Use a GLASS or CERAMIC bowl approximately 1 quart size half filled with DISTILLED water and about 4 ounces of brandy, cover with a screen fixed into place with tape or an elastic band, place where the allergen is present. The screen keeps out large particles and bugs. Check water every day and refill to original level also add a small amount of brandy. Do this for up to one week, you will now need a 30ml. dropper bottle, which you should be able to buy at a drug store. Fill this to ¾ full with brandy shake by hitting bottle on a book 40 times. Empty the brandy and take about 50 droppers full of the liquid allergen and place into the dropper bottle (do not use metal to transfer liquid), you require approximately 1/3 to ½ of the bottle being filled, shake 40 times by hitting the bottle on a book, pour out the entire contents of the bottle, replace with distilled water filling the bottle to ¾ full, repeat the shaking by hitting on a book forty 40 times, diluting and shaking 12 times after the 11th time replace the water with straight brandy as this preserves the remedy. This is known as a Korsakovian mixture, the residues left in the bottle having enough of the energy from the allergen to make an effective medicine. To learn more about why we diluted check out “How Homeopathic Remedies are Made” on line.

Dosage 10 drops 1 time daily, morning or evening, stop when there is improvement.

I treated a young boy (11yrs) who had for 3 or 4 years a serious problem with spring air born allergens, prior to using this remedy the young fellow would cough until he broke blood vessels on his face. The treatment was required for two weeks, he is now twenty five and has had no recurring allergies.

THE VERY BEST AND THE ONE THAT WILL RELIEVE THE SYMPTOMS WITHIN MINUTES IS A HOMEOPATHIC TISSUE SALT "MAGNESIUM PHOSPHORICUM", which is available in most health food stores or by Internet from Boericke and Tafel. As a certified Herbalist I have reccomended this remdy for over 40 years and it very rarely fails.

Re: Most herbalists are really bad.

As an Herbalist I must say I hate seeing the above words, I would say “many Herbalists are bad,” not most. Many people who practice Herbology have had no more training than information from the abundant self-help books on the market, or have taken a few weekend workshops. I would like to see a form of qualification that will weed out who is capable and who are not. We have no regulation when it comes to the healing arts, if a person signs a waiver the practitioner can do most anything to this person that they call therapy.

There was this one lady who told me she was trained in Africa by a witch doctor and by the will of God to become a healer. Her form of healing was a few herbs that could only be harvested during the full moon in Africa, also vitamins and supplements and a few bits and pieces of a rare desiccated African Parrot that was placed into a laceration on the arms. She claimed she could heal any disease and had people from all over North America willing to allow her to treat them in this manner. Needless to say many of these people ended up with blood poisoning and the treatment was but a sham. Her procedure took less than an hour and she charged her clients anywhere from 1,200.00 to 2,500.00 Cdn. I tried everything I could to put her out of business but the medical association nor the government were interested in pursuing this matter. Eventually her reputation caught up with her and she moved on to a new location. Her only true interest was the dollars she could generate.

Years ago I attended a Holistic fair to promote Herbology and one young woman approached me with a copy of the "Encyclopedia of Natural Healing", she asked me if she studied the book would she be able to practice as an Herbalist. Of course I told her no. (I had the feeling that it was exactly what she intended to do.) I reviewed this book for Alive Publications and was appalled by the fact, that all mention of Herbs or Supplements was actually a form of advertising for suppliers who paid very dearly to have their product mentioned in this book. Some of the products that they were promoting had absolutely no therapeutic value. Some of the treatments were for life threatening diseases, I suggested that they just tell their readers to see a qualified practitioner in the case of serious disease, or at least mention this to the reader.

As they say "a person who acts as his/her own doctor has a fool for a patient". This only applies to those who have little knowledge or those who have a serious disease and should get a professional involved. Yes I do see a practitioner when needed. I am all for people learning to use natural healing for simple problems.

You are responsible or your own health, make a study of the healing arts and the ones that really work. Don't be fooled into become a practitioner in a few weekends or by reading a few books. One way to evaluate an Herbalist, in general a good Herbalist will use primarily extracts and tinctures with very few powdered herbs, some fresh herbs and herbs for external applications. In my opinion there are only five major healing arts, Herbology, Homeopathy, Chiropractic, Massage Therapy and Acupuncture. Diet and exercise are of course a part of the healing and health process. Reflexology, Meditation and Rieki etc. are helpful but generally do not heal in a serious disease state, there are however exceptions.

I have run across many slick pseudo practitioners so be careful, find out more about the practitioner is he/she certified if so where did they study and how long. Ask for references, when in doubt keep looking.

In many cases the Homeopathic remedy Cholesterinum potency 7 DH or a 3C can eliminate stones in as little as one week. I have seen this work and relieve the pain in less than two hours. You can order Homeopathic remedies on line from Boericke and Tafel. A hot water bottle will give temorary relief but is not a cure. There are other remedies that can be used but the person willl need to know how to reperatize the symptoms properly to determine the correct remedy.

THE ART OF TRUE HEALING IS A CONTINUOUS STUDY Part One

There are thousands of nature cure self-help books on today’s market and an equal amount on the internet, all giving you a guide or suggestions that may or may not have a true healing value. I do not have all the answers nor am I all knowledgeable but (a big BUT). I have been a certified Herbalist and an avid student of natural healing for over 35 years and may have some suggestions as to a more definitive and effective way to approach maintaining a balance naturally. How many times have you tried natural remedies only to see mediocre changes or no change at all? The first step you must realize is that your diet and exercise habits may be preventing you from achieving the health you desire. I am not going to give you a lecture on what you should eat and how you should exercise other than eat natural foods and get some time outside in the fresh air every day. This does not mean jogging or walking along a busy roadway breathing exhaust fumes.

ALLERGIES MAY BE THE CULPRIT

A simple way to test foods for allergies is by holding your arm out straight, 90 degrees to the body, have someone place various small amounts foods into the palm of your hand , make a fist, tighten your arm muscles and try to keep your arm ridged, your partner will try to pull the arm down with two fingers, if there is good resistance that food can be taken into your diet, if however the arm is easily moved downwards that food may be causing a problem or may be detrimental to your health. It is a good idea to test all food groups or simply test all foods before you eat them. Some people may have allergies to certain fruits, vegetables, grains etc. these types of allergies may be a part of a more complex manifestation and can in many cases be handled by a homeopathic remedy, more of this latter. By eliminating those foods that do not agree with you, healing can now be approached with herbs or homeopathic remedies. You must always eliminate the root cause when possible to achieve health. As an example too much protein may lead to gout, too much alcohol may lead to liver or kidney problems, smoking will cause heart and lung problems. These are obvious simple examples, by testing the foods and drinks you ingest and eliminating them from your diet you may require no medication as the problem could have been the allergy.

One way to handle allergies that has some effect (30 up to 50%) is to have the affected person hold a small amount of the allergen in a closed hand while giving this person several foot reflexology treatments. Liquids can be placed in a glass vial. Holding up to five allergens is acceptable. Treatments may take some time depending on how long the person was allergic to the food or drink. Reflexology treatments every two days is recommended.

The problem with most supplements is they are not all of high quality nor do they contain the amount of ingredients that are listed on the labels. Many supplements are just junk, it is buyer beware and don't let the clerk in the health food store help you choose your supplement as their knowledge comes from the suppliers monograms which in most cases is pledgerized fron the legitimate and clinical proven supplement. In most cases supplement are generic and the supplements you can buy in your grocery store are generally just as good as the most expensive ones in the healthfood store. Read your labels and make certain they are natural, synthetics are definetly garbage.
As for antioxidants there are a few that have absolutely no therapeutic value. The Grapeseed extract supplement is one of the biggest lies in the natural health publication’s as it has never been clinically proven or shown to have any more value than a few oranges per bottle. The origins of grapeseed extract come from Mesqueliers OPC85 which is patent protected and one of the most powerful antioxidants on today’s market, I believe it is now unavailable in Canada and can only be purchased in the USA, the only product I would recommend is Nature’s Way Tru OPC’s. Antioxidants are great to prevent various forms of cancers particularly prostate cancer but use only when prescribed by a qualified practitioner. Let me state here that a qualified practitioner will put you on the right path and save you a lot of money. Self-medication is not a good idea when dealing with a serious disease.
If you are using supplements instead of eating a healthy natural diet you are not going to get much from them as most supplements lack the necessary enzymes that utilize their value in the cell.
Here is one fast food type formula that is live food and packs a wallop of energy when made and stored properly. 3 parts Raw natural Flax, 1 part Raw natural Sunflower seeds, 1 part Raw unhulled natural Sesame seeds and one part Natural Raw Hemp or Chia seeds (hemp does not require herbicides) place in a coffee grinder and blend until well powdered. Start by using 1 tablespoonful, mix with a bit of water or juice in the morning, chew well as you drink, increase to 2 tablespoonsful after a week or two and then to 3 tablespoonsful within a week or so. Drink at least 8 ounces of fluids after taking this formula to help it from causing a binding in the colon. This formula is alive with enzymes, vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids it will boost energy and give you a great amount of necessary fibre. You can make up to two weeks supply and keep in a sealed jar for up to a month in the refrigerator or 6 months in the freezer. This simple inexpensive formula will improve health and energy dramatically, it is absolutely great for those who have high blood pressure or high cholesterol. The high fibre content helps to cleanse the colon and feed the healthy intestinal micro-organisms
