I have been thing about this too. I think beavers make a great analogy for thinking about permaculture. They find leverage points in the system, increase diversity, maximize edge, and build soil by slowing sediment.
Has anyone used a thermoelectric generator on a rocket stove/heater to produce power? I've seen them on wood stoves charging batteries and now on camping stoves charging cell phones. Seems like you could just embed it in the cob.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of any good treatments for exposed wood? I've heard of concoctions involving bee's wax. Around where I live, some people use crude oil. Looking for non-toxic and easy to make but thoughts of any kind are welcome.

When you make biochar, you have to be sure to cook out as much of the resin and impurities as possible so the char will take up water and nutrients. Maybe it is the opposite you want on a post, a low temp burn with lots of resin.
