So happy I found all these homemade gadgets !
My neighbor has a weld shop and would be Interested in sure . What I would like is an auger big enough to dig 2' wide holes so I could plant , say a quarter acre of berries and also plant a 3 sisters or 5 sisters garden , using the auger to dig the hills . Thanks , Gary

Sorry my phone wanted to say anger even though I typed in auger !

Hi Sergei , and welcome to Permies . I went on a plant walk this summer at a local community here in middle TN . and broad leaf plantain seed heads were said to be nutritious and similar to eating chia seeds and for the harvesting .

Also as part of the greater community here in middle TN , in the Short Mountain area , we have an herbalist guild , and there is great interested in wildcrafting herbs , culinary and medicinal , with wild edibles being dried and tinctures being made .

I like the way you present the wild plants in the videos 1-4 that I have just seen ( it s raining today , so I m at the library ).

Also I have never seen miner's lettuce in Ohio where I m from , or in TN .

I was told that Miner 's lettuce is a winter wild " lettuce " that only grows out west , when I was out in Ojai , Ca. a few years ago , at Gordon Kennedy 's hostel and mulberry farm along the Oso river , where I visited for 7 weeks and helped with the work there . There is a raw food community there and Gordon grows jujubes , sapotes , guava , waltermelon mulberry , Oscar mulberry , Pakastani mulberry , and Persian , mulberry , carob , olive , citrus , apple , and other fruit trees .

We had a raw food chef , Chakra Earthsong who taught classes at her and husband Rhythm 's house near-by . I was an assistant for the classes .

We went on many hikes and enjoyed the cold mountain creek in the early fall ( October ) . ( Late November it was so cool at night , so one night we went to a local hot springs ... ( my first experience and it felt way too hot at first ~! )

In the later fall , when the fires were in the LA area , we had ashes all the way up in Ojai . That was in Oct or Nov that year , and that was the time when Gordon , and Brad , and I went to Palm Springs and took the tram up the mountain to 8,000' and hiked down into the Taquitz canyon ( we had permission as Gordon has land down in the canyon with a cave and a waterfall pond ) . It was like being in another world , and no smoke from the fires at all .

The natives who used to live there knew how to survive on the wild foods there .

So thank you for teaching about how we can survive and also be healthy with food from Nature .

Also there is an opportunity at www.MVPcommunities.com for anyone interested in managing a raw food retreat in the nature coast area of Florida . The contact info is on the website I believe .

Let me know if you are ever in TN . a group of us could go foraging . ( Drea studied wild plants and herbs with Seven Song in New York last year ) .

I'd forage for Borage , except the heat of summer has left it sparse ,

Sincerely , Gary B
