When we were doing the kickstarter for "World Domination Gardening" we started with the name "Earthworks Workshop". After the name change, we went from about $400 per day to $7000 per day. There were a few other things that happened that day, but I think the name change was a huge part.

In hindsight, I think "we should have gone with the cool name right from the very beginning." Duh.

Now, we are about to start another kickstarter. The plan is to come out with four more DVDs about rocket mass heaters. These will sorta replace the current 4-DVD set, and sorta augment. I think the final product will be an 8-DVD set. If the kickstarter is successful, it should be out in July or August or so. The 4 new DVDs will be "making rocket mass heaters with cob", "making pebble style rocket mass heaters", "make your own shippable core" and "the innovators event of 2014".

My first thought was to call this "Wood Burning Stoves 2.1". But I now think that we need a name that is as awesome as "World Domination Gardening". Maybe "World Domination Heating"?

This thread is make nominations. Later, I will start a new thread about voting for the nominations with the "thumbs up" stuff.

Ideas? Thoughts? Questions? Nominations? Brain storming?

I have always seen RMH as a (good) reinterpretation of many different past "Masonry Heating Systems" of the past, and not related to "wood burning stoves" at all.

I have felt for some time that the hurdle for the "uninitiated" to accept (like code officials and governmental authorities) was building a better bridge to the well established history of RMH, and their historical roots in providing heat for sustainable architecture.

My suggested name would be along the lines of:

"RMH: building a horizontal Masonry Heating system with cob" or related tie into their history.

"The "pebble" Masonry Heater"

"Masonry Heater Shippable Cores design and build"

Short, sweet, and to the point titles...

Thanks,

j

I really like Paul Wheaton's idea of calling the new product "World Domination Heating". Since there is already one product by Paul called "World Domination Gardening," the similarity of names links them together. Kinda like how a sales person might say, "Well, if you enjoyed _____, then you might also enjoy ______!" or "buy the complete _____ set!"

I also think Paul's idea of calling the new product "Wood Burning Stoves 2.1" is a great idea because it links the new product to the older product.

My ideas for a name are:

Safe Sneaky Heaters

To the Artic and Back Heating

World Domination Rocket Heaters

I like the idea of linking it to the other dvd sets. The World Domination bit is sweet. So I'm thinking:

World Domination Wood Stoves
or
World Domination Wood Stoves 2.0
or
World Domination Stoves 2.0
or
World Domination Heaters 2.1
or
World Domination Heating 2.1
or
World Domination Stoves 2.1
or
similar combinations of those words and numbers

Maybe?

Helical Outburn Thermal Transfer Systems or HOTTS, unless that is too OTT for you guys.
HOTTS get to the core of what is going on...
Unless you want to be pedantic about the difference between a helix and a vorex; VOTTS just just does not have the same "Ker-ching" to it.

You can take it too far and get into a:
HOTMESS
Helical Outburn Thermal Mass Energy Storage System - this beautiful mouthy bombshell is a fun play with but will likely burn a guy on many levels as a marketing gimmick.

Tune it up a tad - because the above was just a ploy to soften you up for:
HOSTS Helical Outburn Safe Thermal Stoves
A good HOST will keep you cosy and still have enough energy to make you tea in the morning.

To continue the quirky theme
amazon.com/How to be a Domestic Godess could set the to tone for a polished DVD set entitled: How to build the best HOST stoves.

When reading comments on one of your videos, on youtube I think, there was some confusion on how they thought you needed to babysit the heater all day. So I think you need something that explains "what a rmh is and the payoff".

I am going to start slow a dull and end with a great climax...

"Scrap Wood Heat"
"HEAT YOUR HOUSE FOR A DOLLAR A DAY" Just guessing...
"POOR MAN'S WOOD HEAT"
"WOOD HEAT MAXIMIZED"
"RMH... THE DEFINITIVE GUIDE"
"FAST AND CHEAP, THIS AINT YOUR DADDY'S WOOD HEAT"
"CORD CUTTER-YOUR BIBLE FOR WOOD HEATERS"
"GEE A THERMAL? WHAT DO ROCKETS HAVE TO DO WITH HEATING YOUR HOME"
"WOOD STOVES AND BETTER IDEAS"
"WORLD WIDE WOOD HEATER"
"WIN WITH WOOD HEAT"
"NO NONSENSE WOOD HEAT GUIDE"
"TOO HOT OR NOT" THE WORLD DOMINATION BIBLE OF WOOD HEAT"

with a subtitle: it's not about global warming it's all about house warming

I'd put somethoing in the subtitle about global warming and domestic warming to hit the curiosity. I didn' think it great but something like that could be an idea...

I like the "World Domination Heating" or similar variants. I love Kickstarters, just supported Permaskills this month.

***Opinion***
I think the timing is too soon after Christmas. I would consider Mar-April due to tax refunds plus if the community knows that its coming in advance it gives us all more time to save and plan for it. Just like selling tickets to a concert...give fans plenty of notice of when the tickets go on sale, at least 2 months, and then sale day comes and it sells out in minutes.
***End Opinion***

I want to support this KS but the timing is off for me. I will be using my Christmas money for a plant propagation class.

I think this would make a good sub title. Not sure it's a good fit as the main title. I think the main title should be short and flashy while still conveying the general idea of the dvd set. Then add on a cool sub title.

How about

Luxuriant Heat: Infinite and free

One of the reasons I went with the title "Wood Burning Stoves 2.0" was that I thought "how do I infect brains with permaculture". So people could be searching for "wood burning stoves" and I could tell them about rocket mass heaters and then guide them toward permaculture.

It is how my empire started. With the lawn care article. Convincing people to stop buying toxic gick. So I keep thinking that this is the smart way to do stuff. Find an area where people are curious and guide them to permaculture solutions. The "2.0" stuff seems to suggest "the next generation".

Another part of this project is to find ways to infect brains with permaculture through other channels. We are doing stuff on the internet with giving stuff away. It seems like it is wise to figure out how to infect brains for the typical american consumer. Amazon and the shelves of stores in malls. Although I must admit that I have not yet figured out how to master that. But I think we are getting better at it.

Hey all...
I'm new to posting, but have been coming to this site for a few years now... Thanks, everyone, for the great site!!!

Here's an idea... how about 'marketing' the set under multiple different names? As far as my minimal search into the subject went, I don't think there are any legal reasons why you can't do so.
If they were all sold for the same price, there's no reason for them to be different products, and as far as I understand, companies do this all the time... usually to appeal to different audiences.
That way, in the long run, many different searches could link to the same product. You could even print a handful of different covers for the dvd's, and actually send people the dvd's with the particular cover (or title) that they ordered. Inside, you could include a little story that tells how this was all a part of the ploy for world domination.
I'm not sure of the advertising details, but perhaps you could link multiple sites/pages to one kickstarter page...?
Anyway, just a concept, run with it.

As far as titles go... I would include the word 'Efficient' Because this is the crux of the system.

'Efficient home heating' with the subtitle 'And you can cook on it!'

'Cheap, efficient home heating' with same sub...

'Inexpensive, efficient home heating' with same sub...

'Burn less wood while heating and cooking'

'efficient wood heating and cooking'

You could also include something about 'up to code' because this could be a seemingly unrelated search that points people in your direction, and raises the question to a wider audience.

While I like the 'world domination' idea, I doubt many people actually type that into a search engine. I'm thinking of what keywords 'random' people might type into a search engine... you've already got the attention of all us 'permies'...
The title should be related to something that someone who is not familiar with the RSTMH might search for without being too technical, it seems... now that's subversive...

Anyway, as I said, just concepts. If you want to catch NEW peoples attention, I think the title should be something that they're LOOKING (searching) for. And multiple titles is a great subverive gimmick that, in this case, I don't think violates any morals, and without being misleading, either!

What's in a name? Everything. Absolutely everything. The name has to be all encompassing. Something big and bold, with a super-specific sub title. For instance;

"New World Wood Stoves: The definitive guide to designing, building and installing a rocket mass heater." You save the extra stuff about frugality and efficiency for the blurb on the back/product description.

The main title is intriguing and recognizable. "Wait a second, I have a wood stove. What's a new world wood stove? Is that better than my regular wood stove?"

Then they read the sub title and it becomes clear what the product is. From there, I'd be googling rocket mass heaters until my eyes hurt. And as I mentioned, you'll want to save all the money issues and efficiency for the deeper product description. The name/title has to be crystal clear to allow people to get the overall scope of the DVD. The finer details get moved to the long winded description. Which would all start with a really ear-perking opening, something like:

"Are you interested in an ultra-sustainable means of providing year-round heat? Ever considered keeping your home warm with nothing but junk mail?"

And then go into specifics.

I feel like this will mainly reach the passive solar people, who might not open their minds up to something beyond precious passive solar anyway. Resistance is futile.

paul wheaton wrote:Heat: the new generation

I like this most

paul wheaton wrote:Heat: the next generation

This one I like second.

paul wheaton wrote:Off-Grid Heat 2.0: Rocket Mass Heaters

I like this but I think you gain little by using off-grid over wood or wood stove.

paul wheaton wrote:Heat: Cleaner than Electric and Cheaper than Gas

Good one.

paul wheaton wrote:Heat: Cleaner and Cheaper than ever before

Not as good as the one referencing electric and gas above.

I propose.

RMH: Insanely (or freakishly) efficient wood stoves

RMH: Heat your house, save the world (and money)

Optionally you might add the version numbers after "RMH".

Maybe I'll be stoned for associated RMH so closely with wood stoves but I personally take vengeance on the lies of the wood stove industry and their total lack of real innovation. At the same time I guess this is "fighting the bad guys" which just seems to end in a line of trolls waiting to spew propaganda.
