We've been doing the system of keeping cow and calf together for a week, than seperating at night for 3 months, than completely separating.
Now we are thinking about when we can reintroduce them to the herd. They are weaned off 2,5months ago. I understand the answer will be 'if they arent drinking anymore', but i'd like to not try that with trial and error, because separating them again will give nightly concerts again, i'm afraid...

Hi there, since 2 months we have 2 beautifull jersey cows, which we milk. Our idea is to do only seasonal milking (from april untill october). But we might have a problem now.
The cows are still not inseminated, because the sperm didn't arrive on time, because it was hard to find, and so on. Now our next chance would be the beginning of october, which would mean that they would calf around the beginning of july. This is way out of shedule and will be hard to get them into shedule again.
Could it be an option to just continue milking them, without insemination for another year, so we can inseminated them next year in june? I heard from traditional cowkeepers that it is unpossible, but i feel like i need a second opinion on this.
Any ideas?

Thanks for the replies!

I think we already have a little bit more milk.. But still not really a lot. Like 200ml/day.. I hope it will keep on going better.. We've added some fennelseeds in her food for 2 days, good idea
We were also thinking that maybe it is normal that they give so little at the beginning, because the little ones don't drink that much to. But I guess 200ml is not normal..
Any thoughts?

We have a problem!
A week ago, we found 2 dead little babygoats in front of the stable. We don't know what happened, but we guess that one of the others goats kicked the little ones.. This are the first babygoats that are born since we have goats. So we think we have solved that problem by making 2 little, separated stables for the other 2 goats who are pregnant.. Let's hope so..
Now, we've started milking the mothergoat without the kids. I've been milking her for a week now, 3 times a day, but it looks like it isn't working well.. Last year, she gave a decent amount of milk, but now, almost nothing! I thought it would go better after a couple of days, milking 3 times, but it stays the same..
Does anyone has a idea what is going on and what we can do about it?
