Their names are Vic and Ivar Kemppainen. now we have lost that horsepower draft culture to modernization of agriculture by tractors and commercialization of fertilization pest and unwanted herb controls. We experienced here in america a a shift in symbiotic economy when mines closed. Our short growing. Season coupled with sparse population and great distance to markets made modernization not economical and farms have depressed here in keweenaw since late 1960s. That is why permaculture is an intriguing concept. We struggle to survive without. Does anyone eat "Riiaska" bread in Finland still?

I am new to this premier. What intrigues me is this discussion about the cold climate in which we live. here in America I live on air homestead that was settled bye my great grandfather who are they finish immigrant in the early 19 hundreds These finnish pioneers worked at logging and farming with horses and in the copper mines. Now I work at homesteading on the same family farm. Trying to earn a living so taxes will get paid. If a fin would like to share farm here I welcome.
