Hi I'm from Scandinavia, Born Norwegian, but lives in Sweden on my little farm in the deep forest of Vermland. I love what Permies.com are doing and I have learned a hole lot of smart things about the thing we're talking about all the time at permies.com

Is there any possibility for Scandinavia to have a region in the regional forums? The reason I wonder about this is that we don't have the same climate as Europe, we have winters, with few hours of daylight, and summers with never ending light like nowhere else.

To meet other Scandinavians in a forum knowing and learning about each others achievements and problems would be great for everybody!

I'm living at 60 grades north (almost like Anchorage, Alaska) and Scandinavia reach from 54 grades north up to 71 grades north, It's not possible to get closer to the north pole on mainland in the world) But this is not like Siberia or Alaska, we have no permafrost, summers are longer and winter's not that hard or long helped by the hot gulf-stream running up the north Atlantic sea that gives us our special climate and keeps Europe out of the fridge

I know there are many (relatively, when there's only ca 30 million people in Scandinavia) who likes the idea about living more natural and self sufficient.

You all are doing a great job at Permies.com

Thanks
Arvid K Nilsen

We usually create more regional forums based on use.

Let's see how many other members threre are from Scandinavia who want to join in. We'll work from there.

Hei, from Savonlinna, Eastern Finland.
It would be great for us Scandanavians to have a regional forum, there are many things that are very specific to our part of the world, also I would love to hear from people up here and share ideas...... so please, please, please can we have our own regional forum.
We have a small holding with sheep and chickens, four hectares of field and garden and 13 hectares of forest, we are pretty new at this and love to experiment!
looking forward to getting intouch with more people.

Greetings, Nicola.

Hei,
I am new to this premier. What intrigues me is this discussion about the cold climate in which we live. here in America I live on air homestead that was settled bye my great grandfather who are they finish immigrant in the early 19 hundreds These finnish pioneers worked at logging and farming with horses and in the copper mines. Now I work at homesteading on the same family farm. Trying to earn a living so taxes will get paid. If a fin would like to share farm here I welcome.

This is a picture of my great uncles horses plowing the field. Their names are Vic and Ivar Kemppainen. now we have lost that horsepower draft culture to modernization of agriculture by tractors and commercialization of fertilization pest and unwanted herb controls. We experienced here in america a a shift in symbiotic economy when mines closed. Our short growing. Season coupled with sparse population and great distance to markets made modernization not economical and farms have depressed here in keweenaw since late 1960s. That is why permaculture is an intriguing concept. We struggle to survive without. Does anyone eat "Riiaska" bread in Finland still?

I think if folks agree to get 20 to 30 threads started once the forum is created, then it should be fine.

Hi,

Newbie from Telemark, Norway checking in. Have watched houndreds of films and read thousands of pages about permaculture over the last year or so.
So now I aim to become a permaculture "farmer" on my little 1000 square meter garden and put theory into practice. So far I have set up a small hugelculture,
and polycultured it, then I built a herb spiral version 1.0, mulched half my garden with woodchips, and set up some raised beds after a receipe from Jack Spirkos site.
I have also projected a small food forest that is still on the early planning stadium.

So now everything can start going wrong so I can come in here for help and advice.

Hi!
I am 21 years old, starting agricultural studies (plant production) in University of Helsinki Finland this fall.
I would for us to have our own 'scandinavian' (we aren't actually REAL scandinavians in Finland!) so that we could share ideas and get to know each other better.
I am aware that there might be alot of similarities between our climate and northern american/canadian climate and therefore we could find what we're looking for there, but in terms of community, culture I think it would be more appreciated by us 'scandinavians' that we have our own place to chat . There are so many things and terms which americans use which aren't familiar to us.

I already have a couple of topics which I think would be suitable!

Och tack Arvid för att du började den här diskussionen

Here you go - new forum for scandinavia!

What I'd really like now, because my brain is a bit fuzzy tonight and my geography is truly awful, is for someone to hit the report button for every thread that should be here but isn't and just right 'scandinavia' in the comment box. That way I might find them all. Or at least most of them..

Enjoy!

Maybe for the Finns who are sensitive to being referred to as Scandinavian (which they are not from the Scandinavian people, but rather Uralic); would a better reference be "Nordic?" Just tossing that out there. When I lived in Finland, I was reminded of this fact on more than one occasion.

I found this thread and would hope to revive it.
I love communicating with the entire permaculture community, but if I wanted to visit other farms it would be a bonus if they are not on the other side of the planet 😄

So anybody from Baltic states Eastern Europe or Scandinavia here?
