Since Bill Mollison wrote "Omnivorous diets make the best use of complex natural systems", Permaculture practitioners may have their beneficial animals and eat them too. The obvious place to convert living creatures to forms convenient for cooking is near food preparation and storage. However, that process is going to generate sounds and smells which are certain to stress the domestic animals and attract predators. Obviously, cleanliness is critical, but I've never encountered any guidance on how to not freak out the stock and draw coyotes and such even more strongly than mere concentration of potential prey. Can anyone provide successful slaughterhouse design and management techniques from personal experience?
