I started a 1 acre market garden last season. started selling at a new farmer's market and made between $250- $500 in a day. We were very lucky to start our farm at almost no expense, so this was worth while. We did a usual mix of produce including salad greens (#1) fruits (#2) roots (#3) herbs (#4). Sold in that order. This year we are starting our first 10-20 member CSA. As far as budgeting goes, keep your first year cheap and make sure you can pay back everything you need for the farm in first year. Starting year 2 with debt from year one would defiantly suck! so Basically just try to break even and make enough to surivive the first year, while you figure out your markets, customers, expenses, etc...
