wow Klaus, that is awesome! would be great to visit you eco-island sometime.
our pig project worked out great. we fed them mash from the local brewery and old food from the markets, only buying 8sacks of feed for the 6mos we had them. we got 4 pigs at 27 kilos and after 6mos had the smallest pig at 100kilos! a great return. in turn they tilled .3hectare of fields for me and fertilzed (would have done multiple hectares if i let them), we got lots of tasty meat- it was though a bit more work than i imagined, but worth it.

hi!
my sister-in law lives in alajärvi, would be nice to see your farm next time we go up. we live about an hour west of helsinki and have just started my first big perm project with pigs. welcome to visit if you find yourself in the south.

hello, i am newbie. i got 4 pigs from a local pig famer last week, average weight was about 25kgs so i would assume they got their early vaccinations (or i would assume because of the stringent laws here in finland, EU where i live) and the farm is legit. i have been told that typically they get another vaccination. does anyone know is this necessary? i am wondering if its just a hoop that the famers jumpt through to please the EU.

my pigs are on almost a full acre of jerusalem artichokes and brassicas, and i plan on keeping them only up to the fall (or when it drops below 5C). any help appreciated- tried searching the forum but couldnt find anything.

hey there,
you got a microbrewery close to you? my local nano brew has promised 100-150kg of mashed barley every week. thats great FREE feed. also our local markets have agreed to give us 'expired' produce. use all your resources.

i also had a question about feed. this is my first time with pigs and we are getting 4. a local nano brewery has promised 100-150kg of spent mashed grain per week. along with this i can get whey and 'expired' produce from the local store including massive amounts of bread. i figured this is a good mix. any thoughts? how much should i be feeding? we are only keeping them to fatten up for the fall- then christmas ham and bacon!
