Nicole Alderman wrote:I know the way we wash eggs really can impact things. I kept getting ucky fishy flavor in my duck eggs. I'd thought it was what I was feeding them, or something in their environment, only to find it was how I wash them!

Now I wash each egg individually. I don't let the eggs sit in water. I wash one quick in hot water and put it on a towel. Then I wash the next, putting it on the towel. Then I thoroughly dry each egg before storing them. That way, they all stay wet for a short of a time as possible.

I have been doing what you do as well, but instead of just hot water, I add white vinegar. Half hot water, half vinegar. Then I use a toothbrush to quickly scrub them, dry, and refrigerate.

However, I don't automatically wash them after collecting them. They will stay in a basket until I need to use them or someone wants to buy some.

Thanks so much for sharing that...great idea for at least the front part of our 5 acres.

When we moved here, 12 yrs ago, there was a dirt path in front of our property as there was only one other person way back behind us on 20 acres. On the other side of the path was 70 acres of trees. We were surrounded by 40 acres on 3 sides. Pure heaven!

Needless to say, it didn't last long. 2 yrs after we moved in, we ended up w 3 neighbors, 2 on either side, one behind. That was ok...then the folks who owned the 70 acres sold it & there is now a 3 section subdivision, with a paved road. Thank goodness our house sits a long way away from the road and there's probably a good acre of trees between us. No fences as of yet. Really expensive up here in AK, but we'll get it done eventually.

ALL that to say I REALLY love your post about the living hedge. I think it would be perfect out front, tks! ๐Ÿ˜
