I’m looking for people who’d like to learn and practice permaculture / homestead skills and spend 1 month or several on our 6 acre Central California property, not far from the beach. I’ve a cob oven, hugelkulters, no till/dig gardens, diverse livestock, year-round creek, orchard, compost systems, etc. The garden area is fenced, composted, and mulched. I’m developing the site as well as improving it to offer ecotourism, self-sufficiency, and permaculture education.

I’d like work trade help. I’ve taken and hosted PDCs, as well as practiced permaculture for 15 years. I’m putting that knowledge to use and would love to share this sandbox with others; learning, laughing, putting effort in as we enhance this little slice of heaven. I have GREAT Wwoof reviews that I can share if needed. :)

I am a mom, wife, and 50 years old! I have been hosting folks from all over the world for the past 15 years.

Private amenities include:
Furnished Room
Kitchenette
Hot Shower (outdoor)
Composting Toilet
Sink

Shared amenities include:
Food
Gym
Workshop
Sauna
Pool
Creek
Firepit
Cob Oven
Electricity, Fast Wifi, Water

If you are interested, please tell me about yourself and the reason for your interest. We've hosted people for reasons that vary from, “You’re close to a great surfing spot!” or “I’ve always dreamed of being a homesteader!” We’ve had all levels and all reasons. Multiple opportunities exist for great people.

Thanks,
Jennifer Collins

FWIW, I have my chickens and rabbits overwintered in the hoop house/greenhouse/nursery -- 3 months out of the year. It has worked great & I'd def do it again with small tweaks.

(Caveat: I would also have done more design work upfront to deal with heating & cooling but I can't go back and change that now.)

It's necessary for me to keep the heat up for plant starts (using barrels of water for thermal mass).

I've not had any dust problems with deep mulch (as this is a moisture rich environment).

It's so convenient to throw scraps to them from what's growing in this space.

The chicken infrastructure can be less cumbersome as it need not be predator proof, just chicken proof (light netting/cloth/hog panel) to keep them from tasty tender plants.

Air circulation over daytime hours is needed to alleviates respiratory concerns.

The chickens have a connected outside run they access when the weather is favorable. The rabbits cages go out as tractors on nicer days.

I'm in zone 9b so don't have snow or temp extremes.

We (a family) have a permaculture farm/garden/homestead of 6 varied acres minutes from great surfing/tourist beaches and amazing redwood forests. If you'd like to work on permaculture projects and have lodging & omnivorous food grown regeneratively onsite, get in touch and we may be able to accommodate 2 week to 6 months individual stays in exchange for help on the homestead. We have hosted PDCs in the past but are not currently. We host wwoofers and permies in all seasons. Happy growing!
