The 'fire' was in the insulation layer. That layer was at least 4 inches. We are thinking that the ratio of clay,sand and (we used wood chips) was off, causing our problem. We have removed the insulated layer and will redo using spent grain and wood shaving instead of wood chips. Really appreciate the reply back and will let you know what happens.

We made pizza in our oven this last Thursday and today is Monday, The external oven is internally still cooking. Not really sure how to explain, but the walls on top are hot to touch, smoke is coming out of small cracks and some areas are squishy. How do we put out the 'heat/fire' without destroying the oven.
