I’ve had some very good mushroom jerky made with them.

I’d strongly look at subscribing or at least looking at some of the classes GroCycle offers.   Their educational focus is teach how to start and grow a mushroom business.

I grow a decent amount of oyster, lions mane and chestnut mushrooms, but don’t grow for profit.  I have donated grow kits to two different organizations to sell, and they’ve done well.

The grey oyster plugs should do well for you.

I don’t live far from Punxy (as we call it up here).  If Phil forecasts six more weeks of winter, we’d be very happy with just six!  An early spring forecasted Feb 2?   Never believe it.

Maybe a jelly fungus?

If you look around, there is at least one commercial grower using coffee grounds.  Look them up and watch any videos they post, or call them up and see if they will talk to you.

I’m guessing you are primarily interested in oyster mushroom species.  Coffee is a great substrate but is extremely nutritious and prone to infection.   A cardboard/coffee mix might work out well.  Experiment and see.  Expect some failures in developing a process that works.  I learn as much from the failures as I do from the successes.

Let me think about this a little. I might start with what species you want to grow as the first step and branch from there.  Several like lions mane, chestnut, poppino, etc.  can be the same starting point, as they can be grown the same ways.

Some of the medicinal mushrooms are quite complicated to grow.

I described above how I was growing lions mane.  I’ve been experimenting, and Field and Forest videos introduced me to an easier method.

Take a mushroom grow bag, add to it 5 cups of hardwood pellets, a half cup of soy hull, and 5 cups of boiling water.  Shake and fold the bag top shut and turn upside down so no air enters it. Let cool for several hours or overnight.  Add 1.5 cups of lions mane grain spawn.

I buy spawn from NorthSpore and a bag will make 13 grow bags.
