Back in May when it wasn't so stiflingly hot I picked a bunch of Turk's Cap (Malvaviscus arboreus) leaves in a brine made from salt and lemon juice. They're surprisingly tasty, great for making into dolmas or putting onto pizzas like spinach. I wrote the recipie down here on my blog if anyone is interested in recreating it

I wonder what other species (besides grapevine of course) would be good to pickle.

Its probably a Auricularia species, maybe Auricularia auricula-judae?

I know this is my post but i wanted to add some places more you can find paw paw seeds

www.nuttrees.net/ is one place i've found that sells really interesting paw paw seeds. such as the "Al Horn White Flesh Pawpaw" (the seeds are pretty expensive though)

www.facebook.com/ksu.pawpaw     This program is usually giving away free paw paw seeds, so its worth sending them a message

Baker creek heirloom seeds (rareseeds.com) is going to be selling paw paw seeds in 2018.

Admittedly I did not treat them optimally, but I have some sprouting now.  Will have to get advice from others here on keeping them viable through the winter,.....which will fast be approaching. (Zone 3b)

VERY helpful link, thanks!!

hi Morgan,

welcome to permies

I will have seeds available by the end of September
fruit starts to ripen here in mid september

my trees were seedling from Edible Landscaping in Virginia some 30 years ago
if that's diverse for you
all with excellent fruit

I would send some seeds for postage or exchange
i typically collect 800-900 seeds each year to give away or start seedlings
so get back with reply then  and see "purple mooseage" above to provide details

thank you, i'm definitely interested. ive heard really good things about Edible Landscaping's paw paws

I want to get as many diverse types of paw paws as I can, i'm willing to pay shipping or trade some of the seed varieties I have
Fresh seeds only though, the seeds need to be kept moist or they will not sprout.
