Reminds me of a printing press for children. Letters in a moveable-type tray inserts and maybe it came with preformed plates with pictures or such to print. The top of the gizmo swivels to stay parallel to the bottom plate.
My Grandmother kept a shovel called a sharp shooter. Short D handled with a flat top on the narrow blade. She and I are short and these are perfect for a quick dig in not so hard ground. I use it a lot now that I am now a grandmother myself.

This is a great idea. My grandmother would have loved it as she had a 'tree lawn' in the front yard on a 'busy' street in a small town and a small flower garden in her backyard. Everyone exchanged seeds and starts in the neighborhood.
