We built our outdoor kitchen as an adjunct to our indoor kitchen so facilities like water (and dishwasher) are close at hand.
The outdoor kitchen is on a covered patio on which we erected a long bench, on the centre of which stands our wood fired pizza oven, something of much joy and around which we have shared many meals with friends, neighbours etc.
The oven is used for all kinds of baking, from the pizzas to chickens and other meat roasts, vegies, bread and when we are done for the night we pop in a cast iron pot to slow cook stews like lamb shanks that emerge in the morning looking black, but they sure are unctious.
The patio is covered with a transparent material (maclaron I think) so the sun gets through and allows me to grow all our herbs in pots. They are just a few steps from the pizza production area, so its easy to snip off fresh basil, oregano, sage, rosemary etc when needed.
We have one of those canvas sails that we erect in summer for shade. It hooks on to the timber beams of the patio below the see-through roof.
On the patio apart from the pizza oven we have a standard gas bbq, a hibachi charcoal grill, a Weber smoky mountain slow cooker and a long table with benches either side.
It’s all you need for an endless summer of great cooking shared with friends.
