Biography
My name is Harriet. I am 67 years old, retired teacher, living with my son, 7 dogs, 2 goats, and 1 cat. We live in Leicester, near Asheville, in the mountains of NC. I love to garden and share my property with my farmyard friends! (Once the fence and hen house are up, we plan to have 6 hens and 1 rooster.) I always enjoy learning about sustainable living!

Unfortunately, we only got to it on the last couple days and the thing came out very ugly, not to mention that it did not work. I decided to stay on at Wheaton labs as a Boot and get in some additional tinker time!

Problem: Lack of local glass recycling services mean that glass goes to the landfill or is crushed and mixed as aggregate in concrete.

Solution: homestead scale glass recycling! Turn broken bottles and jars into tiles, bricks, dish ware, jewelry, fermenting weights and more. Your imagination is the limit!

Bonus: Make a permanent home for Paul’s ultra dangerous Fresnel lens and melt glass with concentrated sun juice

This is amazing! What possibilities are there for large applications...solar power for homes, communities, etc?

Hi Eric! I  excited about learning more about compost tea for my gardens. I have composted for years... but have not worked on the "tea" aspect. My compost bins are... 1- food scraps and "brown matter" in a stationary compost bin and..2-an open bin with straw and pine shavings, combined with goat "deposits." (This bin is new as are my goats and I am not sure if I can use it for composting.) What do you think?

Do your goats have hard surfaces to climb on, play on, etc.? I have difficulty trimming hooves too. Concrete block structures and a concrete or road bond section outside of their barn area helps to make more time between trimming times. Also...if you are using general trimmers, don't! High quality goat trimmers make the job easier!
