Not sure if this is the best place to post such a question, and I'm sure there are other threads on this topic so perhaps I could search this.  But I wanted to ask anyway....
My husband and I are going to be looking for a place to create a homestead/food forest/permie paradise, and we'd like to at least know where we want this to be within the next 4 months or so.  Because of my husband's work, we'll most likely always have a small place in FL that he/we can come to here and there as need be, so I'll have something growing here.  We currently live in FL and while I love it, the mountains are home, (and I miss winter!) and I want to create our "main" home somewhere that is closer to mountainous areas, preferably close access to wilderness.

My question is- if you could go anywhere in the US to start a homestead, where would you choose (and why)? I obviously want to take into account soil and climate conditions, a current permaculture community in that area that I could be involved with, etc etc.
I am leaning towards Colorado as a personal desire, I just love it there so much.  I have lived on the mid-east coast my whole life and I do love that area so I'm not opposed to it, but really we could go anywhere at all.  So I would love some ideas to get us thinking about it!

Thank you

Hi all,

My husband and I are heading out to southernish CA area in our camper van once we're able to travel again.  Our plan was to head out there in the beginning of May, but it looks like our timeline may have to shift to accommodate whatever situations are arising. But anyway, we’re coming from the MD area, and we’re looking to be a part of a deeper community.  We have spent the last few months traveling/camping and are now back in MD for as long as we need to be until we can head out again.  Traveling has been wonderful but we’re looking for a bit more community and roots.  We’re used to boondocking in the woods but it seems that most places to do that are preeeetty far away from the permaculture farms, organic farms, earthskills and general community that we want to engage with.  We'd love to continue to boondock, but we're also thinking this may be an opportunity to help out and learn more, so we're kinda poking around to see if there's anyone who would be open to the idea of us parking our "house" somewhere on the property in exchange for helping out.  Never asked anything like this before so I'm not quite sure the best way to do it.
But if anyone here might be open to this, let me know and I'd love to talk more.  I know travel is a bit uncertain right now but I like getting things organized, and we'd like to be able to head out that way as soon as we can!

Hi~ thought it would be a good idea to ask this question here
My husband and I are moving out to CA in a van. We're looking to stay more southern CA, since we don't have a real house and hate being cold We're looking for an area that has a strong permaculture and organic farming community.  I haven't visited CA since developing this passion so I don't have any contacts out there. Also- I can't breathe if I'm in a city.  Recently we've been boondocking in the wilderness which would be great to continue, though I'm done with the traveling part of it that we've been doing. Can anyone give me some pointers as far as a general location that may be suitable?  We're looking to make this area home, and so I want to be able to be a part of a strong community.
I'm definitely utilizing google but that can only take me so far

Thanks guys!
