I am looking for a 100% waterproof snake boot.  I am not sure such a thing truly exists after a couple of years of wear.  Thoughts?  There are lots of good ideas in this gear thread but when I look at reviews they all seem to say they leak after a year or two - if not first use!  I live in southern Florida and when the rains come (June 1 to October 31) my ranch gets pretty soggy.

Is it possible for you just to mulch this up and wait?  I am not great at this (patience and planning!) but I made a couple of simple columns out of old fencing (8' diameter x 5').  I let nature break it down and use it from the bottom.  Would this work for you?

I am a big Ice Breaker fan.  Normally wool bothers me but socks and tees and long underwear have been my mainstay cold weather gear for a while.  It may be true of the other brands too but the Ice Breaker tees are so thin they are great for layering up without a lot of bulk.  I wear this clothing seasonally and even then just on cold weather trips.  I am in year four and nothing has worn out.

Ten random thoughts on the food forest ... 1) make sure you can walk to it 2) can it produce 2,000 calories (+/-) per day year round (remember you can dry store stuff) 3) diversity - the more the better - no monoculture for us 4) can you personally cultivate it with manual tools 5) look to native plants 6) research indigenous practices for your area 7) what is your storage plan in the event of a single year or multi year no-growth event medicinal plants  9) clean water (can you hand dig a well?) 10) beekeeping - ancient practice, plenty of calories, requires no storage,  helps your forest. There are many more ideas I am sure and many may not agree with this short list but please let me know what you think.
