This is great Max. I look forward to seeing more updates to this.

I am currently brain storming ideas for having a cook/grill/oven and masonry heater combo in a sunroom I hope to build in a few years.

That is great to hear. I'm in zone 5a, Toronto Canada and last night I finished my first hugelkultur bed. I'm excited to see it evolve over time.

Thanks for your post.

Hi Everyone,

This is my first attempt for my backyard design  and looking for feedback.
I've tried to label everything in the design picture. My goals are to grow food in a space that works as an entertainment space.

The location of the rain barrels tower might change to the side of house. I put the rain barrel tower in the SE corner because running PVC pipe down to the barrel benches would be the easiest. However I would have to install a new downspout. The side of the house NE corner already has the downspout and would be an easier connection to barrels. The solid drainage pipe running underneath the walking path could than be used as the overflow for the barrels(new location).

- Slopes down away from the house
- Zone 5 (Toronto, Canada)
- Plan to have Hoop House over the 10x2 beds in the Winter

Thank you everyone in advanced for the advice.

If that don't do it in a week or two, I use Bt. but only as a last resort.
Loosing your entire harvest aint no fun.

Ralph Thank you,
How would I apply Neem oil is this case?

Identified - gypsy moth caterpillar

First year garden, just moved into my first house and it seems the whole area/neighborhood is infested with these caterpillars. Zone 5, Scarborough/Toronto Canada.

What are other people doing to combat them? Any short term organic/natural solutions? What is the life cycle of them?

Every morning I go out to my pear tree and brush away the caterpillars (I think I'm getting good at it), remove any damaged or diseased looking pears.

My long term goal is to create a balanced ecosystem on my property by attracting birds(feeders, house), predatory insects(beneficial plants and flowers)..etc

Thanks

Should you trellis the plant up? It looks like it grows like a bush?
